Frederick Foote


OXFORD – Frederick A. Foote, 91, of Oxford passed away on May 4, 2007 at the New YorkVeterans’ Home, Oxford. 
He was born on June 15, 1915 in Old Forge, the son of the late William and Ruth (Arthur) Foote. On Aug. 12, 1937 in Oxford he married Mabel (Pickie) Cady Foote, who survives.
Besides his wife, Pickie, he is survived by his daughter and son in law, Alietta and David Wright of Greene; his granddaughter and her husband Lou Ann and George Day of Greene; his great grandchildren, Michelle Day, Monica Day and Brian Day all of Greene. He is also survived by his brothers in law and sisters in law, Chuck Ross, Doris Potter and Derwin and Lora Jones. Many special nieces and nephews also survive. His sisters, Ethel Wilcox, Blanche Murray, his brother, DeWitt Foote and his stepmother, Blanche Foote, predeceased him.
Fred had worked in the lumber industry in Lowville and airport construction in Plattsburgh prior to moving to Oxford. He worked for Oxford Farm Machinery for a number of years and the Village of Oxford. He was a jack-of-all-trades, especially enjoying construction work. He operated a farm on the Preston Road for many years having Holstein dairy cows and then raising Hereford beef cattle.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 1308th Engineering Battalion. He was a member of Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion and Christie Rock Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was known for his practical jokes.  He was an avid deer hunter and loved to fish. He enjoyed spending time every summer at camp in Old Forge with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. 
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday at the United Church of Oxford, Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Allen C. Lang officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad.
