Hazel Soules

NORWICH – Hazel L. Soules, 82, of Peacock Park Apts., Norwich, passed away Wednesday evening, May 2, 2007 in the St. Johnsville Nursing Home of St. Johnsville.
The daughter of Alford and Mary (Howe) Gale, Hazel was born on Jan. 26, 1925, in McDonough. Following her school years, she worked as a stamper at the Norwich Shoe Company, “from the time it opened” until her retirement. Hazel was a very independent lady who enjoyed taking her neighbors to their various appointments, and was known as “the cookie lady of Norwich.” A dedicated member of the Calvary Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was very active in the church’s programs and lived her faith every day. Above all else, Hazel loved her family dearly.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Lee and husband Frederick of St. Johnsville, and Connie St. John and husband Leslie of Arlington, Texas; her sister, Thelma Manwarren of Norwich; and by 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Hazel will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich. The Rev. Brian Conover will officiate, and committal will follow in Union Cemetery of McDonough. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
