Marion Symonds


SHERBURNE – Marion P. Symonds, 77, of Sanitarium Road, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 10, 1929 in Sherburne a daughter of Everett and Marjorie Fuller Powell. She grew up in Sherburne and received her education in local schools. On July 14, 1946, Marion was married to Floyd D. Symonds, Sr. in Sherburne. They bought a farm in 1948 and operated it until retiring in 1979. Mr. Symonds predeceased her on Jan. 29, 2006. Marion was an avid quilter, having made numerous quilts for family and friends to enjoy over the years. She enjoyed baking and became known as Sherburne’s “Pie Lady.” She baked pies for the Rotary Club for many years, and her family estimated that nearly 12,000 delicious pies came out of her kitchen.
Mrs. Symonds was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne and the W.S.C.S., now the United Methodist Women. She had also been a member of the Home Bureau and delivered meals for 60+.
She is survived by her children: Marjorie and David Wilcox of Lebanon; Leslie and Greg Robinson of Waterloo; Alice and Ed Elsworth of South Plymouth; Cathy and John Carpenter of Sherburne; Floyd D. Symonds, Jr. of Sherburne; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Charles Croston of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Dee Powell of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; Earl and Beverly Powell of Sherburne; sisters-in-law, Lenora Powell of Sherburne, Betty Powell of Norwich and Rosie Powell of Utah. Marion will be greatly missed by her 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her many nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Marion. She was predeceased by a sister, Edith French and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Fred Powell.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 South Main St., Sherburne.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service.
