Mary shapiro


NORWICH – Mary Shapiro, 94, former resident of  36 Waite St., Norwich, in the 1960s and 1970s, died Friday, April 13, 2007 in Worcester, Mass. 
She was the wife of the late Rabbi Edward Shapiro of the Norwich Jewish Center. Rabbi Shapiro’s vision and dedication were tantamount to the eventual creation of a Morrisville College Extension in Norwich. His death occurred in  1971. Mrs. Shapiro leaves a son, Alan; a daughter, Claire Zundell-Cameron, former Norwich High School Theatre Director, Norwich Youth Activities Director and freelance writer;  a son-in-law, Dr. Fred Kuttner, physics professor, author and lecturer at U.C. Santa Cruz; a brother, sister, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 
A past president of the Norwich chapter of Hadassah, Mrs. Shapiro was known for her compassion and dedication to family, friends and community. 
Burial services were held at Mt. Hope Cemetary, Jewish section, Wednesday, April 18. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwich (or Worcester) chapter of Hadassah.
