Robert Edmunds Sr.


NORWICH – Robert Tarr Edmunds, 86 of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
Mr. Edmunds was born in Ithaca, New York on March 6, 1921 to Catherine Tarr Edmunds and Robert Curliss Edmunds.
Mr. Edmunds attended New Hartford High School, and Cornell University, graduating with a five year degree of Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. During World War II he served in Army Ordinance attaining the rank of Captain.
On Aug. 6, 1944, Mr. Edmunds married Maureen Pierrepont White in Utica, New York, now deceased. His daughter, Diana Godfrey Edmunds is also deceased. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Merriam Trube of Littleton, Colorado and a son, Robert Tarr Edmunds, Jr., of Waterbury, Connecticut and two grand children.
Mr. Edmunds was employed by the (then) Norwich Pharmacal Company and successors from 1946 to 1983. He was an engineer in the design and construction of many chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Norwich, Greenville, SC, Paris Ontario, Canada, and in Puerto Rico. After retirement, Mr. Edmunds worked with Delaware Engineering, P.C. on the design and construction of a number of municipal Waste Water and Potable Water treatment facilities and other projects.
Mr. Edmunds served as Chairman of the Norwich Zoning Board of Appeals, Chairman of the City of Norwich Waste Water Commission during the construction of the treatment facility, Chairman of the Norwich Water Commission and as a member of the Norwich Planning Commission. He was a member of the Lost Pond Club and the Norwich Elks club.
He enjoyed many summers racing and cruising with his family on their yawl, Altair, on Lake Ontario. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and golf.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at the Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church officiating.  Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family asks in place of flowers to please donate to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Mr. Edmunds’ name.
