Betty Morris


NORWICH – Betty D. Morris, age 86, of Dundee, died Sunday April 15, 2007 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, in Elmira.
Honoring her wishes there are no prior calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Dundee Library 32 Water St. Dundee, NY 14837.
Betty was born Sept. 20, 1920 in Van Etten, the daughter of the late Harold and Della Rogers Denmark.  She graduated from Van Etten High School in 1936, and from Albany State Teachers College in 1939 with a degree in English and History.  After college she worked as a reporter for the Binghamton Press at the Norwich Bureau.  On Jan. 28, 1945 in Norwich, she married Leland A. “Bunky” Morris. She became a teacher and taught at the high school level in the West Irondequoit School District for over 25 years before retiring in 1984.  Mrs. Morris was a member of the Congregational Church in West Irondequoit, where she lived for many years.  They have lived along Seneca Lake since 2003, previously of Scio.
“Betty was an avid reader, gardener and mentor to her family and friends alike”.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Leland A. Bunky Morris at home; 3 sons, John (Martha) Morris of Big Springs, Tenn., Jeffrey (Laurie Richer) Morris of Dundee, Jay (Mary) Morris of Cuba, N.Y.; two daughters Jill Morris of Rochester, and Dale Morris of Berkeley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a brother Monroe “Denny” Franklin Denmark in 1956.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
