MARIE PETERSEN
OXFORD – Marie Helen Petersen, of 15 Cook Street, Freeville, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at University Hospital in Syracuse after a short illness.
Marie was born Jan. 5, 1915 in New York City to George and Anna Bundstein Kratzer. She was married to Joseph Petersen on Feb. 20, 1937. They were married for 56 years having lived in New York City for several years, then moving to Freeville where they ran a dairy farm for 40 years. Marie also retired as a CNA from Lakeside Nursing Home. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #1134 in Dryden; Hudson-Fulton-Dryden Chapter #250 Order of the Eastern Star; Dryden Grange #1112 and the W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary in Freeville. She was a member of Freeville United Methodist Church. Marie was predeceased by her husband in 1994. Marie was a beloved mother and grandmother. She shared many special times with family members who will forever cherish these memories.
She is survived by two daughters Carol Ann (Merritt) Russell of Oxford, and Florence Petersen of Bradenton, Fla.; a grandson, Scott Russell of Rochester; two granddaughters, Heidi Russell of New York City and Heather Russell of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother Frederick Kratzer of Poughkeepsie, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Calling hours are Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Members of the Legion Auxiliary will assemble at 6:50 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Freeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 229, Freeville, NY 13068-0229.
