Stanley Braun


SHERBURNE – Stanley H. Braun, 80, of Classic St., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born Aug. 27, 1925 on Onondaga Hill in Syracuse, a son of August J. and Esther Stanley Braun. He interrupted his education by joining the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and returned to graduate from Onondaga Valley Academy in Syracuse and attend Paul Smith’s College in Saranac Lake. On Jan. 22 1954, Stan was married to Helen L. Ames in the Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church in Syracuse. They made Sherburne their home since 1956. Stan was a truck driver for Victory Markets in Norwich until his retirement. He had also enjoyed doing clock repair for Turner’s Jewelry Store in Sherburne.
Stan was a member of the United Church of Christ in Sherburne. He was very active in his community serving as the Sherburne Village Justice for 20 years, and as a Village Trustee for four terms. He was a member and twice Past Master of the F&AM Lodge #444 of Sherburne and had also held New York State Masonic office. He was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne; as well as a former leader and treasurer of the Cub Scout Troop #66 of Sherburne. His favorite hobby was raising standard breed exhibition poultry and serving as a judge at many area county fairs.
Surviving are Helen, his wife of over 52 years; three sons and a daughter-in-law, James Stanley Braun of Sherburne; Richard Gary and Phyllis Braun of Norwich; and Scott Alan Braun of Largo, Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Braun Leary of Fairport; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Robert Allen of Ocala, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Annette Braun of Midland, Texas; two grandchildren, Conor Patrick Leary and Erin Braun Leary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Church of Christ in Sherburne. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Stan’s family has requested contributions in his memory be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the Sherburne Emergency Squad, Sherburne, NY 13460.
