Patricia Benson

NORWICH – Patricia A. Benson (Liparulo), 55, of Hickok Ave, Norwich, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2007 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Born in Tampa, Fla. on Jan. 18, 1952, she was the daughter of Patricia McAvoy and the late August Liparulo. Patricia was a 1970 graduate of New Berlin High School and lived in Norwich for 30 years.
Patricia is remembered as a woman of great compassion and generosity. Though her body was slowed by the effects of lupus for the last 25 years, she was a loving mother and doting grandmother whose greatest joys came from being with her family and friends. A news and political enthusiast, Patricia was a dedicated supporter of the Democratic Party and an active contributor to numerous charitable organizations. She was especially proud of her donations to the Disabled Veterans of America. Patricia was a long-time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich.
Patricia was predeceased by an infant daughter, Karen.
Survivors include her mother Patricia McAvoy of Norwich; son Matthew Benson and his wife Julie, of Clifton Park; daughter Stephanie Benson of New Berlin; beloved grandchildren Jaia Benson of Clifton Park and Elyssa and Macie Franklin of New Berlin; sister Deborah (Liparulo) Durler of Norwich; sister Judie Salzano and her husband Charlie of New Berlin; brother Steven Liparulo of Houston, Texas; sister Sandra Kilpatrick of Melbourne, Fla.; nieces Courtney Starr of Sidney, Brianne Baldwin of Norwich, Angela Camp and Sophie Salzano of New Berlin; nephew Daniel Dodge of Clovis, N.M.; dearest friends Faye Williams of Morris, and Frank Schrier of Norwich; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Patricia’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Bassett Hospital’s intensive care unit for their remarkable support, which has meant so much to us.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 37 West Main Street, Norwich, with Father Glenn Mahaffey officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Patricia’s memory to the Lupus Foundation of America (www.lupus.org) or to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).
Arrangements by Dakin Funeral Home, LP of New Berlin.
