Frances Sastri

NORWICH – Frances P. “Polly” Sastri, 90, long-time Norwich resident, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 4, 1917, in Hamden, Polly was the daughter of Edward S. and Lulu B. (Penny) Arbuckle. She attended and graduated from the Delhi schools, then worked over the years for the Bendix Corp. of Sidney and the C&U Telephone Company in Norwich. On March 19, 1944, in Sidney, Polly married Angelo Sastri, and they made their home in Sidney through the birth of their children before eventually moving to Norwich. During her many years in Norwich, Polly became known as a person who was good to talk with and who would give you an honest opinion. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and her years living in the Golden Age Apts. where she and several other residents became known as “The Golden Girls.” A lady who had a quick humor and an open door for family and friends, Polly was absolutely dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them, sharing Sunday dinners as often as they could.
Polly is survived by her children: Jean Goodrich and husband Bob, and Paul Sastri and wife Charleen, all of Norwich; her grandchildren: Shawn Sastri and wife Karen, and Joanne Woodard and husband Patrick, all of Norwich; Katie Donovan and husband Jim of Plymouth, Mass., Tracy Maynard and husband Chris of Norwich, and Chad Goodrich and Becky Evans of Norwich; and by great grandchildren: Curtis and Corry Woodard, Gehrig and Jackson Sastri, Makenzie and Carson Maynard. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Angelo, on March 11, 1966; and later by her brothers, Harold and Claude Arbuckle.
A Mass of Resurrection for Polly will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Bartholomew’s Church, with Rev. Lester Smith, pastor of St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church of Sherburne, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Polly’s family has asked that contributions in her memory be sent to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
