Raymond Cunningham


OXFORD – Raymond Cunningham, 90, formerly of Oxford, and Palm Island, Florida, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 14, 1916 in Preston, a son of the late John Cunningham and Myrtle Oakley Cunningham.
Raymond served in the 866th Engineer Battalion during World War II. He served in Japan and was given an honorable discharge in 1946.
Mr. Cunningham worked at Scintilla in Sidney until his retirement in 1978. He also worked at the C.C.C. Camp in McDonough.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 2175 in Sidney.
Raymond and Bernice moved to Johnstown in October of 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years Bernice Fleming Cunningham whom he married Oct. 17, 1935; one daughter Marge Martin of Johnstown; grandsons Donald and wife Julie Martin of Perth, Richard Friedman of Winter Haven, Florida; granddaughters Debra Hawley of Gloversville, Donna and husband Bill Jackson of Winter Haven, Florida; great grandchildren Kim, Paul, Stephanie, Stacey, Hunter, Riley and Gabrielle; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Cunningham was predeceased by a daughter Joyce Friedman, and a sister Pauline Kinney, and a grandson David Friedman.
A graveside service will be conducted at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of ones choice.
