Mary Famolaro


NORWICH – Antoinette Mary Famolaro, 99, of Griffin Street, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2006 at her home. Her family was at her bedside.
Born in Hamilton on Feb. 15, 1907, she was the daughter of Bartolo and Mary (Scafidi) Mollica. Mary moved to Norwich with her family at a young age and had worked for a few years as a sewing machine operator at the Norwich Knitting Mill before raising her family. She was a lover of music and a talented musician, playing both guitar and mandolin at home and for social gatherings at her church. Mary also loved to cook and cared diligently for her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Bartholomew.
On Sept. 2, 1929, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, she married Guitano Famolaro who predeceased her. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Frank and Marilyn Famolaro of Norwich, Julie and Bill Taylor of Winslow, Maine, Bart and Marianne Famolaro, Mary and Jim Dundon, Antoinette and Jim Dennis and Joan and George Whiting, all of Norwich; 25 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and her beloved cat, Tina. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Caravaglio and Jennie Natoli.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Bartholomew. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
