George Rogers


SOUTH PLYMOUTH - George A. Rogers, 85, long-time resident of South Plymouth, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 7, 2006, in the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.
Born June 28, 1920 in Keyport, NJ, George was the son of Giles and Estella (Lambertson) Rogers. He was a 1940 graduate of the South Otselic school and, on Nov. 3, 1941 in No. Pharsalia, he married Edith Franklin. A veteran of the United States Army, George served his country from Aug. 1945 until his honorable discharge in May of 1946. Returning home, George and his family made their home in Norwich for a brief period of time and then moved to South Plymouth where they lived for over 50 years. He had been employed by the Norwich Pharmacal Co. for 28 years working, as a welder for instrument repair, retiring in 1982. George was a long-time member of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church of Norwich and, over the years, had worked many hours as a volunteer for the church.
George is survived by his wife Edith of So. Plymouth; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Beverly Rogers of Plymouth; 7 grandchildren: Amy Donaldson and husband Tom of Sherburne, Sherry Hill of Plymouth, Debbie Thompson and husband Kevin of Plymouth, Karen Rogers and financee Dan Maynard of Sherburne, Brian Rogers and wife Julie, Dale Rogers and wife Shelly and Mark Rogers all of Plymouth, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is his step-sister Lillian Crandall of Norwich.
Memorial services for George will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Brendixen, Pastor of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the South Plymouth cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
