Florence Coon


MT. UPTON – Florence M. Coon, 83, former resident of the Rockwells Mills and Mt. Upton areas, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford where she had made her home for the past several years.
Born May 1,1923 in Sidney, Florence was the daughter of Olin and Edith Wilbur Heath. She grew up on the family farm in the Gilbertsville area where she attended the local school and on Aug. 20, 1944 she married Richard Coon, who passed away in 1966. In 1946, Florence and her husband settled in the Rockwells Mills area where they made their home for many years. Following the death of her husband, Florence continued to make Rockwells Mills her home until the mid 1990s when she moved to the Golden Age Apts. in Norwich. Over the years she had worked for the Norwich Pharmacal Co. and the Norwich Shoe Co.
Florence is survived by her son Bruce W. Coon of Gilbertsville and her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Paul Warren of South Dakota; her four grandchildren: Lisa Steele and husband William, Michelle Gray and husband Jerry, Paul Warren and Bruce Coon Jr. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, her sisters Bea Alien of Utica and Christine Camp of South Carolina, her brothers Fred Heath of Sidney and Dan Heath of Oneonta along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Richard, Florence was predeceased by her sister Esther Birdsall her brothers, Wilbur, James, George and Richard Heath and a grandson Brad Coon.
Funeral services for Florence will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery of Mt. Upton.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
