Betty Jean Loughren


OXFORD – Betty Jean Loughren, 80, of Oxford passed away on March 11, 2007 at Chenango Memorial Hospital. 
She was born in Oxford the daughter of the late Tracy and Bonnie (Thurber) Wright. On June 22, 1946 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford she married Douglas Loughren, who passed away on Oct. 16, 1998.
Her children, Michael and Deborah Loughren of Hegins, Pa., Kathleen and Joseph Brillinger of South New Berlin, Judy and John Killean of Norwich, and Michelle and Paul Arithi of Omaha, Neb.; and her grandchildren, Jeffrey Ditzell, Amy and Kevin Pole, Lindsay Brillinger, David Brillinger, Tracey and Steve Cartland, Patrick Killean, Hannah Killean and Kecia Bey, survive her. Her sister, Wanda Wright predeceased her.
Betty Jean graduated from Oxford Academy and Central High School in 1944 and attended Keuka College for nursing. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Oxford. She will be long remembered for her Cider Mill Antiques Shop and Millbrook Flowers. She was very active with her children, including hosting a pig roast for the football team following their undefeated season in 1963.
Private funeral services will be held at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Joanne Lanfear officiating. Interment will be in Warn Ten Broeck Cemetery, Oxford.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County or the Chenango County SPCA.
