NORWICH – Elizabeth “Betty” Law, 79, of Norwich, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 7, 2007 at her home.
The daughter of Hiram and Rena (Brown) Labour, Betty was born on July 18, 1927, in Johnson City, where she grew up and attended the high school and nursing school. Betty was a resident of the Norwich area for well over 60 years. On Oct. 8, 1955, in Great Bend, Pa., she married Ralph Law, and the family settled in Norwich, living on the Springvale Road. On Jan. 6, 1960, Betty went to work for Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals, where she remained employed until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1991, from Norwich-Eaton’s successor, Procter & Gamble. Having worked a total of 31 years, Betty was a member of the company’s Quarter Century Service Club.
Betty is survived by her children: Judith Wright and her companion Joe Home of Salisbury, N.C., and her children Michael, Timothy, and Robert Straut; Earl “Richard” Wright and wife Marie of Tennessee, and their son Steve Wright; Larry Wright and wife Ruth of Norwich and their children, Kim Shoemaker, Laurie Bliss, and Jason Wright; Kenneth R. Law and wife Kelly of Norwich and their children Riley, Challen, and Padriac Law; and Jim and Amy Law of Norwich and their children Cory and Erica Law. She is also survived by her mother, Rena Van Valkenburg of Oneonta, her sister, Joan French and husband Butch of Unadilla, and brothers: Bill Labor and wife Jessie of North Norwich, Paul Labour of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Gerald Labour and wife Dot of Mt. Upton; by several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Law, on Aug. 8, 1995; and by her sister, Doris Tabias, in 1994.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Taylor of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Betty’s family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
