NORWICH – Nicholas J. Wilkinson, 22, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in Columbia, S.C.
Born in Norwich on Sept. 13, 1984, Nick was the son of Clifford and Patricia (McDonough) Wilkinson. Growing up in the South New Berlin/Mt. Upton area, he attended the Gilbertsville/Mt. Upton School. Following his high school graduation in 2002, he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in California, also serving in Okinawa, Japan. Nick had recently made his home in Columbia, S.C., where he worked for a time for a local cable company, and was currently working for a firm which installs septic systems. An avid NASCAR fan, he especially enjoyed following the career of Matt Kenseth. He loved cats, and enjoyed demolition derbies, snowmobiling, playing the guitar and just hanging out with his friends.
Nick is survived by his father, Cliff Wilkinson, and his sisters, Holly and Jenny Wilkinson, all of South New Berlin; and by his grandmother, Janice Wilkinson of Bainbridge. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Ronald and Janet McDonough, Timothy McDonough, Debra and James Volk, and Rebecca and Bob Wilson, all of Bainbridge; by several cousins; and by many good friends, both locally and in Hardeeville, Bluffton, and Columbia, SC.
Funeral services for Nick will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Msgr. James Cox, representing The Sacred Heart Church of Sidney, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery of Bainbridge. Friends are invited to call at the R J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
