Grace O’connor

OXFORD – Grace Tracy O‘Connor, a lifelong resident of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007. Known fondly as “Grandma Grace” to the school children she tutored and “Nonnie” to her Oxford Academy classmates of 1945, Grace was a devoted and beloved member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In addition to her spiritual life, Grace was an active volunteer in countless aspects of Oxford’s community and charitable activities including: Bloodmobile drives, Community Benefit Suppers, Taste “N See Soup Kitchen, the Democratic Party, and a Democratic Election Teller.
Grace was a vibrant personality that age never diminished.  Early to rise, Grace could be seen strolling the streets of her loved village, proof of her boundless energy and active lifestyle.  Morning exercise vigils were followed daily by prayers, and then coffee and conversation with comrades at the Clachan Coffee House.  Invigorated by her morning ritual, Grace would then be off to her myriad of volunteer activities that spanned both sides of her river-bisected village.  Weather permitting, Grace always found time for a round of golf and on less hospitable days would dutifully correspond with loved ones via letters, and cards. Always possessing a strong personality, Grace carried on the Tracy traits of honesty in her speech and caring in her soul.
Grace will be dearly missed by her legion of friends within the community she loved and in the parish she worshiped, and vividly remembered by her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford with the Rev. Ralph Osborne, rector of  Zion Episcopal Church of Greene officiating.
Friends may call at St. Paul’s Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.  Following the service the family invites everyone to a celebration of Grace’s life at the Parish Hall of the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St, Oxford.
