Jack Dale


SHERBURNE – Jack S. Dale went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, after a short illness
He was born Dec. 7, 1918 in Eagleville, Missouri, to Lora and Gladys Riley Dale. Jack was 5 years old when his family moved to Georgetown, where they purchased a farm. He graduated from Georgetown High School at the age of 16 and went on to pursue his education at Cortland State Teachers’ College in math, science and physical education. He did his practice teaching at Kings Ferry and graduated in 1941 with a B.S. degree. He went on to Syracuse to take courses in blueprint reading and then got a job at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Corp. in Baltimore, Md. as the plant foreman. On July 29, 1942, Jack married Anne Mussision in Baltimore. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1944 where he trained as a top turret gunner at several bases including Nebraska, Denver, Colo., Albuquerque, N.M. and Alamogordo, Texas. He went to Germany where he served for 6 months and attained the grade of Sergeant. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to So. Lebanon, where he and Anne purchased a dairy farm from Melvin Niles. They had three children, Barbara, James and Paul. Jack and his sons operated the farm for 51 years. They formed a partnership “Tri-Dale Farm” until 1997 when they decided to sell the farm.
Mr. Dale was an active member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church, where he had been Chairman of the Deacons Board, former Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was also a former trustee of the Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Clark Summit, Pa. He served as a member and president of the Georgetown Central School Board of Education for 10 years; was a member of the advisory board of Productive Credit Assoc. and the DCMO BOCES board. He was a former member of the Lebanon Town Board and Town Justice.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Anne; a daughter, Barbara Dale of Sherburne; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Veronica Dale of Durhamville; Paul and Laurie Dale of Earlville; a brother, Richard (Patricia) Dale of Sherburne; three grandchildren, Mistie (James) West, Brent Dale and Ashley Dale; two great-grandchildren, Stevie Lynn and Rylie LuAnn West; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are five sisters-in-law, Helen Parker, Rose Knasick, Katherine Sterle, Eva Campbell and Mary Jenne. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Bumpus, two brothers, Creighton and Rev. Alan Dale; two brothers-in-law, Charles and Frank Lussision.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from the West Smyrna Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Georgetown in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
