Paul Palmer


NORWICH – Paul P. Palmer, 96, of Prospect Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born July 12, 1910 in Brisben, Paul was the son of Raymond and Carrie (Skinner) Palmer. He was a retired laborer and truck driver for the City of Norwich Public Works Department.
Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid bowler, serving as secretary and treasurer of the Independent League as well as president of the Sunday Nite Mixed League.
Paul served with the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant with the 247th Quartermaster Depot Company. He served in both the Philippines and on Okinawa. He was a life member of the Norwich VFW where he has served as Quartermaster for three terms and also was a Past Commander and member of the board of directors.
On Feb. 17, 1934 in Greene, Paul married Mildred Natoli who survives. He is also survived by a son, Ronald Palmer and his wife, Betty, of South Plymouth; grandchildren Gary Palmer Jr., Paul Palmer, Tammy Unger, Tina Munn, Stacy Provenza, Jamie Smale and Lincoln Palmer and fourteen great grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. Paul was predeceased by a son, Gary Palmer, a sister, Madeline Harrington and a brother, Merlin Palmer.
Funeral services for Paul will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Paul may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY  13815.
