Claude Cole


NORWICH – Claude L. Cole, 89, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 6, 2007 in the Gilmour Health Care Facility, where he had made his home for the past two years.
Born in the Town of Norwich on May 14, 1917, Claude was the son of Duane A. and Elizabeth (West) Cole. A life-long Norwich resident, he attended the Norwich schools. Claude worked briefly for the Chenango County Highway Dept., the CC Camps, and the Maydole Hammer Factory in his early years, but his longest employment w s with the Norwich Wire Works where he remained for 28 years. When they closed their doors, he worked for a short time in the maintenance department of the Norwich Pharmacal Company. In his leisure, Claude enjoyed fishing at his camp on Plymouth Reservoir, where he and his family had resided for the past 18 years.
On Jan. 8, 1938, in Norwich, Claude married Lucille Bates. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Cole of Norwich; his children: Ann DePew and husband Stanley of Norwich, Roland Cole of North Carolina, and Brenda Cole of Earlville; by several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and by two great-great grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Claude was predeceased by his brother, Jesse Cole, and his sister-in-law, Gladys Cole.
Funeral services for Claude will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Norwich will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sun. from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m.
