Charles Bailey


Charles H. Bailey, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Chuck was born in Gouveneur, NY on Feb. 21,1931, the son of Harold and Celia Rice Bailey. At the early age of 11 months he came with his family to the Sherburne area where his parents purchased a farm on the Shawler Brook Road. He was a graduate of the Norwich High School where he was an excellent athlete. Chuck was a member of the 1949 undefeated football team which was under the command of Coach Kurt Beyer, a star on the school’s track team and was also a star member of the basketball team. He was also a valued team member of the Y-Giants basketball team.
Chuck was a long time employee of the Norwich Pharmacal Co. and all of its successors retirng as a first class machinist after 37 and a half years of service.
He was a very kind and quiet individual who was very supportive not only of his family but to anyone he knew. He enjoyed a good game of golf and was a former member of the American Legion Post #189 and VFW Post 2782.
On July 19, 1958 he married Norma Martin who survvies. Besides his wife Norma he is survived by his children Sandra Davis and husband Roger of New Port Ritchey, FL, Philip Bailey of Norwich and a daughter Linda., his grandchildren Tony Biviano and Jonathan Bailey both of Norwich and Bethany Sledziona and husband Mark of Oswego as well as great grandchildren Jacob and Gretchen.
Chuck was predeceased by his son Alan Bailey.
A funeral service for Chuck will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville will offiicate. Interment will be in the Columbus Corners Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m.
