Fay H. Saber


Fay Helen Saber, née Owens, 81, of Stone House Rd. passed away Saturday afternoon November 2, 2013 at Chenango Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Fay was born in Canajoharie, New York on April 25, 1932, a daughter of Leslie and Clara Smith Owens, and graduated from Madison High School. On February 27, 1954 she married John A. Saber in St Malachy’s Catholic Church in Sherburne.
Fay worked for a time at the TACO plant, then in the family business, Saber’s Market, and finally at home raising three children. Fay, first and foremost was the matriarch of three generations of the Saber family. She adored her time spent with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When not doting upon children, she was also active with friends at the Norwich YMCA pool and exercise group. She attended St Malachy’s Catholic Church in Sherburne.
Fay is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, John Saber; two daughters, Majel Alishauskas (John) of Sherburne, Kendall Saber (Joseph Angelino) of Norwich, and a son, John A. “Jay” Saber II (Amy Jackson) of Powhatan, VA; several grandchildren, Brian Saber of Norwich, John ‘Jason’ Alishauskas (Tiffany Judd), Cross Junction, VA, Chad Alishauskas, Sherburne, Abby Russell (Justin) of Elmira, NY, Aaron Alishauskas, Sara Alishauskas (William Endress), Jordan Alishauskas (Jess Ayers), Ryan Alishauskas, Adam Alishauskas, Laura Alishauskas, Sherburne and four great-grandchildren, Braedyn, Rachael, Kaylee and William.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held for the convenience of the family.
Those who wish to make a contribution may make a donation in Fay’s name to St. Malachy’s Church food pantry fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
