HAROLD RACE
OXFORD – Lifelong Oxford resident Harold Lewis Race passed away on October 13, 2013 at Chenango Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1926 and married his lifelong companion, Barbara Jean Race, on September 14, 1947.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Jean; his children Tim Race (Darla), Jennifer Dugan, Joanne Borfitz (Tim); Jackie O’Neil (Tom) and his grandchildren Kyle Race, Dexter Race, Joshua Borfitz, Jenni Borfitz, Rory O’Neil and Taylor O’Neil. Harold is also survived by his brother Donald (Evelyn) and was predeceased by his brothers Lawrence, Ken and Paul.
Harold served as the mayor of Oxford and loved to discuss politics. Harold worked many years as the Oxford Village Superintendent. In service to his community, Harold was a member of Rotary, served as a Mason and was a long-standing member of the Baptist Church. An active member of the Oxford Football Boosters, he helped bring the first scoreboard to Oxford’s football field.
A fun-loving person with many friends, Harold spent many good times in German, NY on “the Farm”, where families and friends gathered to socialize and create special memories. As an avid hunter, Harold enjoyed a good hunting trip with his buddies. 
Above all else, Harold cared about people. He was friendly, kind and always put others’ needs ahead of his own. Harold was a loving grandfather and kept track of the many activities of his grandchildren. 
Funeral services will be held on at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the United Church of Oxford, 25 Main St., Oxford, with the Rev. Allen Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the United Church of Oxford on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Oxford Emergency Squad.
