Jean Crandall


Jean B. Crandall, 81, of Sidney, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at her home. Jean was born on October 23, 1931, daughter of the late Frank J. and Agnes (Gilbertsen) Burns in Brooklyn, NY. In her senior year of high school, her family moved to the tri-town area and she graduated from Unadilla High School. Jean worked a variety of jobs over the years, but was most known for her hairdressing and clothing business, Jean’s House of Fashion, in Sidney.
On May 29, 1962, Jean was married to William F. Crandall in Bainbridge. He predeceased her on July 28, 2007.
Jean was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Sidney, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Twin Rivers Sertoma, where she was 2002 Sertoman of the Year, and the B.P.W. When Jean’s children were young, their family enjoyed camping and water skiing, as well as picnics. Jean loved to travel and was an avid local racing fan.
Jean is survived by: four sons: Harold (Skip) and Linda Pickwick, Bainbridge, Dave Pickwick, Lake Worth, Fla., Steve Pickwick, Boca Raton, Fla., George and Barbara Bennett, Payson, Ariz.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Frank, Jr. and Roberta Burns, Bainbridge; sister-in-law, Ina and Jim Homovich, Norwich; special friend, Ralph DiMasi; feline companion, Molly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Friday, October 4 at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St., Sidney, with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Birthright of Sidney, the Delaware Valley Humane Society or to the charity of ones choice.
