Lola Byam


GREENE – Lola A. Byam, 71, a resident of Greene for the past 25 years and a former longtime resident of Norwich, passed away Wed., Sept. 11, 2013, in the Lourdes Hospital of Binghamton.
Lola was born in Corning, NY on March 2, 1942 the daughter of Victor and Louise Preset Bentley. She grew up in Corning, was a graduate of the Corning High School and earned her associates degree from Elmira College. She met her future husband, Everett Byam, in Preston, and they were married in Oxford on Sept. 20, 1959. He passed away Sept. 29, 1980. While making her home in Norwich, Lola had worked for the Norwich Shoe Co. and Shop-Vac. She also worked for the Ribbon Mill in Greene and the Evergreen Home of Greene with her good friends Mona and Barb.
Lola will be remembered as a very kind and generous person.
Lola is survived by her children, Christian Byam and wife Lisa, and Everett Byam and companion Pat Martin, all of Elmira, Daniel Byam, of Greene, and Dawn Thompson, of DeRuyter; her sister, Nora Bixby, of Greene, her brother, Frank Bentley, of FL, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Everett, Lola was predeceased by her step-father, Nobel Merrill, her sons, Lloyd and Loren, her sisters, Ruth Pierce and Juanita Bauer, and her brothers, Ken, Victor, Paul and John.
Memorial services for Lola will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
