SOUTH OTSELIC – Jay M. Halbert, 85, of Johnson City, NY died on Sept. 14, 2013 at the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home.
Jay was the son of Lynn and Priscilla Halbert. He resided much of his life in South Otselic, NY, where he was married to Doris Shepard in 1948. They moved to Tulare, CA, in 1983, and returned to New York in 2006.
During those years, he worked on the family dairy farm, as well as for Borden's Dairy, Don Wight Trucking, and in California, for Dairymen's, Inc. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Tulare, CA. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris, in 2009.
He is survived by his twin brother, James (Margaret), San Diego, CA; his children, Jerry Halbert, Endwell, NY; Vicky Halbert, Hamilton, NY; and Lonnie Schultz, Sanger, CA; his grandchildren Jessica (Eric) Bowerman, Vestal, NY, and DJ (Connie) Perry, Visalia, CA. Great grandchildren include Evan and Emily Bowerman and Jordan Perry.
A private funeral service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Homes, Hilltop Campus, 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City, NY 13790. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the James G.
