Gary Squires


SHERBURNE – Gary Squires, 62, of Sherburne, and formerly of Norwich and Guilford, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Gary was born in Norwich on June 6, 1951 the son of Claude and Coralee Pierce Squires. He was a graduate of the Norwich High School as well as SUNY Morrisville. Over the years Gary had been employed by Morton-Norwich, Tracy Baking, Pegasus and Community Memorial Hospital of Hamilton.
Gary was, without question, a strong father and grandfather and was a wonderful teacher to his children. Although quiet by nature, he remained a very caring and giving person who was loved by all.
On Feb. 6, 1985 he married Louise Roberts who passed away March 20, 2009.
Gary is survived by his father and stepmother Claude and MaryLou Squires of Norwich, his children Angel Cochran and husband Larry of Maine, NY; Staff Sgt. Gary Squires Jr. and wife Diane of Anchorage, AK; Patricia Squires and companion Michael Halavik of Endicott; Edward Squires of Allentown, PA; Staff Sgt. Richard T. Rose Jr. and wife Andrea of NC; Tammie Beckwith and companion Harry Mosher of Castle Creek; Loretta Rose-Craw and husband William of Norwich; Todd Rose and wife Wendi of Greene; his sisters June Mapp of NC; Darlene Dunagan of Norwich; Tammy Bishop of Smyrna; and his brothers Ricky Squires of Sherburne; David Dunagan Sr. of Norwich; and Ivan Dunagan Jr. and wife Anne of Plymouth. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Sean, Michael, Stephanie, Ryan, Nathanial, Haylae, Devin, Shelby, Devin, Brock, Misty, Christy, Hayden, Chandler, Scott, Ziare, Zach, Jenna, Kyle, Megan and Amelia, and his three great grandchildren: Taylor, Khlor and Riley, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife Louise, Gary was predeceased by his mother Coralee, his brother, Robert Squires, and a granddaughter, Bethany Squires.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at noon on Monday, Sept. 16, from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Reese, Pastor of the Columbus Community Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
