Ruth Doing

NORWICH – Ruth Tobey Doing, 82, of Norwich and Johnson City, passed away Saturday night, Feb. 3, 2007 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of Edmund and Lucy (Conley) Tobey, Ruth was born on the family farm in Smyrna on Feb. 11, 1924. Shortly after her high school years, she married Gerald Doing in the family house on Birdsall Street in Norwich. Over her married years, Ruth worked at several jobs but basically chose to stay at home and care for her home and her family. The Doings made their home in Norwich for a time, subsequently relocating to Johnson City where they lived for many years. Following the death of her husband in 1991, Ruth remained in Johnson City until 1997 when her health necessitated her move to Rivermeade Manor in Binghamton. Wishing to return to Norwich, Ruth eventually relocated to Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Ruth is survived by her daughter. Donna Hubbard of Norwich; her grandchildren; JoAnne Lambert of Easton, Pa., Paula Foulds of Sidney, Connie Brown of Binghamton, Samantha Warner of Norwich, Lee Warner of Smyrna, Cheryl Perkins of Binghamton, Cindy Perkins of Smithville Flats, Wallace Ireland, Jr., of Johnson City, and Steven Warner of Sidney; by her sister, Mable Dilworth of Warren, R.I.; and by great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gerald, and her siblings: Harriet Spicer and husband Ralph, Joseph Tobey, Marian Tobey, John Tobey and wife Mary, and Maude Rice and husband Leon; and by her brother-in-law, Robert Dilworth.
Memorial services for Ruth will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the chapel of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor, officiating.
Spring committal will be in Sherburne West Hill Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Please consider memorial contributions to Valley View Manor Nursing Home, “Activities Fund,” 40 Park St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the charity of your choice.
