Susan Day

OXFORD – Susan S. Day, 81, of Oxford, NY, passed away on September 11, 2013 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Norwich, NY. She was born on July 5, 1932 to the late Lyman and Florence (Nagle) Stanton in Webster, NY. On June 28, 1958 she married Charles Day.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles; her sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Stanton, of Hanson, MA; family members Bob and Dolores Day and family, of Toms River, NJ; John and Carol Howard, of Delhi, NY; Jerry and Diane Howard, of New Berlin, NY; and very special friends, Chris and Heather Karn and family, of Oxford, and Stan and Nancy Myers, of Oxford. Susan was predeceased by her brothers William and Richard Stanton.
Susan and Charles had no children of their own, but for nearly three decades Susan touched the lives of countless young students while teaching at Oxford Academy and Central Schools. She retired in 1989 and spent much of her time enjoying her crafts, knitting, and writing well thought out letters to friends and family. Susan loved her holidays, but she was rather fond of the 4th of July, as her birthday was always the very next day. She and her husband Charles logged thousands of miles in their motor home over the years. They often went cross country, spending time in Texas, Arizona and California, before heading back to the east coast. Susan will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched along the way.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Oxford, with Rev. Diane DiLuzio of the Oxford United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will take place at noon until the time of the service. Interment will immediately follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Susan’s name to either the Oxford United Methodist Church, PO Box 506, Oxford, NY 13830; or Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
