Shelby Rogers


OXFORD – Shelby Jean Rogers, 74, of Oxford, passed away on August 9, 2013 at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a courageous battle with her health. She was born on November 27, 1938 in Cuthbert, GA, a daughter of the late Walter H. and Lizzie Mae (Ranew) Shadrick. On December 25, 1960 she married Robert N. Rogers.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Oxford; her daughter and son-in-law, Robbin and Michael Cipperley of DeLancey; her grandsons, Jacob and Lucas Cipperley of DeLancey; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jacqueline and Richard Howe of Oxford, Brenda Joyce Brothers of Oxford, and Martha Carol and Ted Hicks of Harrisburg, IL. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Jean was a very active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, singing in the choir, serving as treasurer, trustee and auditor, as well as teaching Sunday School, and was a former Superintendant of the Sunday School. She retired from the Raymond Corporation and sang in the Raymond Chorus. Her family was very important to her and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening and her pets. She and Bob enjoyed many hours at Lake Steere. She was a former member of the Oxford Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member of the Joseph Jefferson Book Club and the Red Hat Society. She was a charter member of the Oxford PEO and was a past president. She was the New York State representative to Cottey College in Nevada, MI for PEO.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Oxford United Methodist Church, South Washington Ave., Oxford, NY, with Rev. Barbara Green officiating.
