Gloria Haggerty


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Gloria Haggerty, 81, a longtime resident of South New Berlin, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 5, 2013, at her home in South New Berlin.
Gloria was born Sept. 30, 1931 in Oxford the daughter of Frank and Goldie Diamond Smith. In 1961 she began a longtime career with GLA and its successor’s retiring from BF Goodrich after 32 years of service.
Gloria’s family was first and foremost in her life and she always had a smile on her face. A lover of books she would often go to the library, check out three to four books, quickly read them, return and get another group to read. She enjoyed her dancing, playing a good game of pitch, crossword puzzles and playing Yahtzee with her family.
Gloria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Dan Warner of Norwich; her sister Frieda Coble and husband William of Earlville; her two special grandchildren Amy Abbott, who was at her side when she passed, and her husband Joe of Smyrna, and Richard Macumber of Norwich; and she is also survived by another grandson, Timothy Macumber. Also surviving are twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gloria was predeceased by her former husband, Adelbert “Ike” Jones, her son Terrance “Jake” Jones, her granddaughter Teresa Taylor, and her brothers Archie and Julian “Shine” Smith, and her half-brother Robert McNitt.
Private calling hours and funeral services for Gloria will be held at the convenience of the family from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, Pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
