Ruth Stapleton


HAMILTON – Ruth C. Stapleton, 91, formerly of Sherburne, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
She was born February 28, 1922 in Smyrna, one of six children of Herbert and Nancie Judd Cleveland. She received her early education in the Smyrna school and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. Ruth married Harold C. Stapleton in December 1941, who predeceased her on January 9, 1978. Ruth’s life was devoted to caring for her family and a she was foster care mother for many years. She had also worked at the Sherburne Inn at one time.
Surviving are her children, Nancie Hugaboon and Bernie Witter of Brookfield; Harold “Pete” Jr. and Colleen Stapleton of Sherburne; Douglas and Cindy Crosby of Earlville; son-in-law, Roger Jenkins of Kirkville; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her special friend, Velvet Stapleton; several foster children, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Jenkins; sisters, Nora Cleveland, Helen Yackel, Sylvia Witt and Alice Shattuck; and a brother, Hill Cleveland.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on August 1, 2013 in the Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville, NY.
There are no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
