Shirley Lamb


NORWICH – Shirley Lamb, 89, a longtime Norwich resident and well know in VFW Ladies Auxiliary circles, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Shirley was born in Oneida on Aug. 24, 1923 the daughter of Archibald and Florence Yerton Carpenter. As a young child she spent her early years in Oneida where she attended the Oneida and Morrisville schools. She graduated from the Morrisville school as valedictorian of her class. She made her home in Norwich for many years and had worked for the former Norween Shoe Co., the Norwich Shoe Co. and the Bluebird Bakery in North Norwich.
Shirley was a life member of VFW Post 2782 Ladies Auxiliary. Over the years she had been very active in many of the functions of the auxiliary as well as the post itself, especially the weekly bingo games. She also had held many of the offices within the organization including president.
Shirley will be remembered as a hard worker and a woman who had a mind of her own.
On March 11, 1949 in Norwich she married Lewis B. Lamb who passed away April 5, 2003.
Shirley is survived by her children, Wilson Moore of FL, Dale Brooker and wife Donna of South New Berlin, David Lamb and wife Cherry of Syracuse, Jerry Lamb and wife Robbie of AL, Lewis Lamb, James Lamb and wife Chris, and Leon Lamb and wife Vicky, all of Norwich. Also survivng is her brother, Leslie Carpenter and wife Bev, of Sherrill, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Lewis, Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Sharon and son Richard.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held at noon on July 19 from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on July 19 at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
