Kenneth Fernette


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Kenneth A. Fernette, 64, of South New Berlin and well known area auto mechanic, passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, July 5, 2013, at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Ken was born Nov. 12, 1948 in Bellows Falls, VT the son of Gerald and Bertha Perry Fernette. He was raised in Vermont and moved to the South New Berlin area in 1972. He first began working as an auto mechanic in South New Berlin at the garage next to Toby’s, then in 1996 opened his own business known as Ken’s Garage which he was operating at the time of his death.
Ken was known as an honest and excellent mechanic. He would speak his mind and was never out to take advantage of anyone. In his cars, speed was his thing and the faster the better.
On April 10, 1982 he married Carolyn Miller, who he met while fixing her car.
Ken is survived by his wife Carolyn of South New Berlin, his children Kelly Bitters and husband D.J. of Mass., Kenneth Fernette and wife Shelby of RI, Keith Fernette and wife Donya, also of RI, and Kortney Fernette and wife Melissa of Mass. Also surviving are his sisters Pat of CA, Irene of VT, Cathy of KY, his brothers Gerald of NH, Willard also of NH, Fred of VA along with many grandchildren, one great grandchild, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Ken will be held at 1 p.m. on Wed., July 10, from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, Pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. July 9 at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
