Charles Finch


NORWICH – Charles “Charlie” Finch, 86, of Norwich, formerly Oneonta, passed away peacefully Saturday morning June 29, 2013 at home.
Charlie was born in Oneonta on Feb. 3, 1927 the son of Charles and Eunice Belle Murray Finch and was a graduate of Oneonta High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during WW II. On Jan. 30, 1953 he married Anna S. Finch (Stokes) in Oneonta, NY, who survives.
Charlie was a lifelong resident of Oneonta until he and his wife moved to Norwich four years ago. His family was the greatest joy in his life. Charlie balanced being a dedicated father of four and loving husband while he worked at NYSEG for 40 years. A very hardworking man, and a lifelong learner; he took many college courses to advance his career and held the position of Director, Safety and Training when he retired in 1987. Those who knew him remember Charlie as an easy going, considerate and friendly man, deeply committed to his family. When you saw him out for his daily run or walking with his wife, he always said hello. He enjoyed many long walks with his dog Skeeter. He was a member of The “Red Door” Church, First United Presbyterian in Oneonta. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his four children, Chan and his wife Arlene Finch of Houston, TX, Carol Oralls (Finch) and her husband Dennis of Norwich, Denise Bozsik (Finch) and her husband Richard of Delmar, NY, and Jeff and his wife Lori Finch of East Northport NY; grandchildren Arianne Finch, Dennis Oralls II, Michael Oralls, Rachael Bozsik, Claudia Bozsik, Thomas Finch, Matthew Finch, Julianna Finch and Alexandra Finch. Also surviving, one sister Elna George of Oneonta.
Funeral services for Charlie will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich. The Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Walton-Leavitt, Pastor of The First United Presbyterian Church in Oneonta will officiate. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery, Norwich .
