Rosalia Crawford


NORWICH – Rosalia P. “Rose” Crawford, 92, formerly of Pleasant Street, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Rose was born in Norwich on April 23, 1921, the daughter of Giuseppi and Rosalia (Tesoriero) Arria. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1940 and then worked as an inspector at Scitilla in Sidney. It was there that she met her husband, Harvey. Rose worked for a short time at the Norwich Pharmacal Company and the “new” Grant’s store before retiring in 1970.
Rose was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and of the Rosary Society. She was also a former member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Ladies of the Moose Club.
On May 1, 1943, at St. Bartholomew’s, Rose married Harvey L. Crawford. Harvey died on September 22, 2009. She is survived by her children and their spouses, James and Anna Crawford, of Sherburne, John Crawford and Barb English, of Cortland, and Rosanne and Brian Moore, of Smithville; five grandchildren, Jamie, Frank and Jessica Crawford, and Keith and Kenne Moore; ten great-grandchildren, Mathew, Alyshia, Kyle, Austin, Taylor, Brooke, Ethan, Brenden, Calvin and Harvey; two sisters, Yolanda Bradford, of Oxford, and Frances Kepner, of Norwich. Rose was predeceased by two brothers, Sancto (Sam) and John Arria ,as well as two sisters, Grace Quido and Sarah Ciminata.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2013 at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 9 to 10 a.m. July 1 at the Wilson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rose may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
