EARLVILLE – Robert E. Hazard, 87, of North Main Street, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his home.
He was born September 9, 1925 in the Town of Lebanon, a son of Glen D. and Hazel C. Alcott Hazard, and graduated from Earlville High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1943. Robert entered the U.S. Army in December 1943, serving in the European Theater during WWII and was honorably discharged in May 1946. He enrolled in Syracuse University on the G.I. Bill, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree, and later earned a Master’s Degree. On December 20, 1948, Robert married Elisabeth A. Dolan in Holland Patent, NY. She predeceased him on March 26, 2003. Robert was Comptroller for the Nestle Co. in Fulton, Robentech Co. of Vestal, the Borden Co. of Columbus, OH, and Northbrook, IL, and then Sun Electronics of Crystal Lake, IL. Following his retirement, he returned to Earlville.
Robert was a member of the Lebanon Federated Church. He was dedicated to the Earlville community where he a member and past President of the Board of Directors of the Earlville Opera House; a very active member of the Quincy Square Museum; a member of the American Legion Post #236; a member of the Earlville Conservation Club; and a supporter of the Earlville Free Library. As a hobby, he also assisted several town and counties in the area with their bookkeeping and technical support.
Surviving are his children, Jonna and Steven Bartlett of Lebanon; Holly Hazard and Richard Clayton of Falls Church, VA; Robert M. Hazard and Susan Schillmoeller of Aurora, IL; John and Kelly Hazard of Apex, NC; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris Genter and Karl Ferris of Otselic; Ruby and Robert Maltzan of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law Kristin and Richard Holmes, and a brother, David Hazard.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., June 22, 2013 from the Lebanon Federated Church, 1494 Billings Hill Rd., Lebanon.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Earlville Cemetery.
