Ruth Johnson


PRESTON – Ruth Johnson, 102, a lifelong resident of the Preston area, passed away Monday evening, June 10, 2013, in the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin.
Ruth was born in Preston on June 15, 1910 the daughter of Clarence and Flora Wright Curtis. Growing up in Preston, she had attended the Daniels School House in the Preston area. On Oct. 12, 1933 in Oxford she married Julian Johnson, who passed away May 29, 1980. Ruth has made her home on the family farm since 1940 and it was here that she raised her family and made her home a pleasant place for all.
Ruth always made sure her family came first and tended to their every need. She was very self sufficient, clever with her hands and a great cook. All of these traits led to her longevity and well being.
Ruth is survived by her children, Joyce Blackman and husband Leslie, Julia Bartle and Josephine Johnson, all of Preston, her grandchildren, Karen Lyons and husband William of So. New Berlin, Kathy Alexandrea of Cortland, Kevin Bartle of Oxford, Kris Bartle and wife Joanne of Oxford, Greg Blackman and wife Leslie John of Media, PA, Cindy Blackman and significant other Ed Longstrom of Endicott, Shelly Sayles and husband Greg of Reno, NV, and Lesley Blackman and husband Sal Vilardi of Norristown, PA. Also survivng are 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband Julian, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Lucy Harvey, her brother Earl Curtis and son-in-law Bruce Bartle
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 2:30 p.m. on June 15 from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will follow in the J.D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
