Margaret Thomas


GREENE – Margaret E. (Peg) Thomas, 85, of Greene, passed away on May 15, 2013 at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City. She was born on January 19, 1928 in Greene a daughter of the late J. Harry and Ellen (Ackerman) Elliot.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clifford Thomas of Greene; her children, Dale and Jean Thomas of Chittenango, Richard and Deborah Thomas of Greene and Mary Thomas and her companion, Dennis Edwards of Whitney Point; her sister, Virginia Besemer of Spokane, WA; her grandchildren, Bruce, Brian, Bridget, Brenda, Brad, Jim and Mike and her great grandchildren, Corinne, Cole, Kai, London and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry and James Elliot.
She worked in an egg plant and was an operator for the phone company until Greene went to dialup. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church, UCC of Greene, where she participated in the choir and the Women’s Fellowship. She was a former driver for FISH, now Christian Caring Service. She loved golfing and bowling and was recently inducted into the Greene Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was a former member of the Investment Club in Greene. She was an avid card player and also enjoyed reading and genealogy research. She will be missed by her cat Damien aka Smokey. The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, especially, Cassie Wilber.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church, UCC, North Chenango St., Greene. Friends may call at the First Congregational Church from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greene Garden Club, c/o Sally Magee, 145 Jackson Hill Road, Chenango Forks, NY 13746, or Christian Caring Service, c/o Shirley Detweiler 951 County Rd. 2, Greene, NY 13778.
