Matilda Bullock


NORWICH – Matilda J. “Tilly” Bullock, 95, a lifelong Norwich resident, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, in the Finger Lakes Center for Living of Auburn where she has made her home for the past several years. She had moved to the Auburn area in 2002 to be closer to her family.
Tilly was born in Auburn on Sept. 18, 1917 the daughter of Willard and Julia Lehand Adams. She moved as an infant with her family to the Norwich area where she grew up and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. On Nov. 19, 1937 at St. Paul’s Rectory she married Alvin Bullock who passed away Nov. 4, 1986.
Tilly was a dedicated member of St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church and had been a member of the Ave Maria Guild. Over the years she had volunteered as a pollster at various polling stations in the City of Norwich, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was also active as a volunteer at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Tilly is survived by her children; Juliana Smith and husband Gerald of Auburn, Richard Bullock and wife Joan of Sherburne and Barbara Bullock of Ft. Collins, CO; her grandchildren, Susan Hogan and husband John, Michael Smith and wife Jackie, Jennifer Baliva and husband Arthur, all of Auburn, Richard Bullock and wife Marlene of Apalachin, Scott Bullock and wife Ann of Big Flats, Heather Bullock of Norwich, and Jessica Jackson and husband Jessie, also of Norwich. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Alvin, Tilly was predeceased by her son James Bullock, her sister Leona Dowling and her brother Willard Adams.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Tilly will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday from St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
