Rita Truax


SHERBURNE – Rita M. Truax, 67, of County Rt. 24, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at her home.
She was born January 11, 1946 in South Amboy, NJ, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hayes Sr., and Martin Barnhart. Her family moved to New York where she received her education in Moravia schools. On July 25, 1992, Rita married Frederick F. Truax in Sherburne. She was a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to caring for her family. Her favorite hours were those spent doting on her three great-grandchildren.
Rita was a member of the American Legion Post #876 Auxiliary of Sherburne. She enjoyed many hobbies, especially tending her flower gardens, playing shuffleboard, cooking, baking, crafting and crocheting. She also loved going to garage sales and the activities at the Moose Club in Norwich.
Surviving are her husband, Fred; her children, Edward J. and Mary Batsford of McDonough; Robert D. and Michele Carhart of Sherburne; son-in-law, Craig A. Magacs of Greene; grandchildren, Ashley and Myranda Batsford, and Jordan Carhart and Dalton Peek; sisters and brother-in-law, Regina Foster, Betty and Wilfred Quail, Elsie Todd, and Pearl McKane; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kathie Barnhart, George and Donna Hayes, William and Vicky Hayes, and Kenneth Hayes; sister-in-law, Connie Hayes; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Marie A. Magacs, a grandchild, Tyler Magacs, a sister, Beverly Smith, and three brothers, Randall Barnhart, John and Chester Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment in the Sherburne Quarter Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Sherburne; the Columbus Community Church; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County.
