Ola Scripture


NORWICH – Ola Mable Saftenburg Scripture, 98, a life-long Norwich resident, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Ola was born in Norwich on Sept. 2,1914 the daughter of Lewis and Angie Figary Follett. She grew up in the Chenango Lake and South New Berlin area and was educated in the South New Berlin school. On Aug. 10, 1941 she married Raymond Saftenburg, who passed away Jan. 25, 1974, and on Dec. 31, 1977 she married Cecil Scripture, who passed away on March 28, 1984. Over the years, Ola worked for Victory Markets in its offices, the Bendix Corp. (Scintilla) during WWII and C&U Telephone Co. from which she retired in 1975. She was a longtime member of the Broad St. United Methodist Church.
Ola is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Harry L’Hommedieu of Altamont, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husbands Raymond and Cecil, Ola was predeceased by her sisters Florence Young, Reba Cummings, Nora Edwards and Alva Smith, and her brother Roy Follett.
A funeral service for Ola will be held at 1 p.m. May 2 from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Hale, Pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
