OXFORD – Dorothy Elizabeth Wakefield Young, “Sue,” 70, a life-long resident of the Oxford area, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Williamsport Hospital in Williamsport, PA. For the past year she had resided at the Susquehanna Valley Hospital in Muncy, PA.
Sue was born in Oxford, NY on June 12, 1942 the daughter of Laurence and Carleda Bassett Wakefield. On Aug 6, 1960, in Oxford, she married Richard A. Young, who passed away Jan. 19, 2006.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a very caring and giving person who saw the good in everyone and cherised her friendships with her many co-workers and friends. An individual who always had a kind word to all, Sue was a special friend to everyone who knew her. She worked for many years at NBT as a supervisor in the data processing department, a job she truly enjoyed until her health forced her to retire.
Sue and her husband enjoyed their many years of camping with friends. They traveled for many years to Maine with good friends Floyd and Jean Rivenburg and camped summers at Cook’s Park with many friends.
Sue is survived by her sons, Scott Young and his fiancee Janice Vaughn of Oxford, Eric Young and wife Stacey of Washington State, her grandchildren Jomar Gonzales, Eric and Elizabeth Young, Kyle, Karrie, Kristen and Katherine Kissinger, Brooke and Alexander Rice and Anthony Vaughn. Also surviving is her sister Laura Slater of Oxford, her brother Raymond Wakefield and wife Pat of Oxford, her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Paul and Margaret Young, William and Carol Young, David and Linda Young, Barbara Young, Frenda Papaleno and companion Donald Wakefield, and Retha and Morris Beckwith. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her husband Richard, Sue was predeceased by her parents Laurence and Carleda Wakefield, her brothers Richard and James Wakefield, sister-in-laws Rachel Wakefield, Shirley Young, Florence Young, and her brother-in-laws James, Jerry and Ronald Young, and Clarence Slater.
Funeral services for Sue will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Walker will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
