Rachel Carpenter


NORWICH – Rachel Carpenter, 92, a resident of the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin for the past several years and formerly of Nowich, passed away early Thursday morning, April 11, 2013, at the Chase Memorial Home.
Rachel was born on April 26, 1920 in Norwich the daughter of Frederick and Leona Smith Coy. She was raised in Norwich and attended the Norwich schools. During the war, she made her home in the Illion area where she worked for the Penny’s parts department. She soon returned to the Norwich area where she married Guy Carpenter who passed away Nov.3, 2003. While making her home in Norwich she was employed by GLA and its successors working in the stock room.
A quiet individual, Rachel could always be found reading one of her favorite books. While making her home in Norwich she had attended the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich and most recently was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Berlin.
Rachel is survived by her daughter-in-law Laurel Carpenter of Norwich, her grandchilldren Pastor Matthew Carpenter and wife Julie of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Mickae Carpenter Lee and husband Corey of Marion, NY, her great grandchilldren Jacob Lee, Audrey Carpenter and Isaac Carpenter. Also surviving are her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Claude and Harriet Carpenter along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husband Guy, Rachel was predeceased by her son Rev. Allen Carpenter and her sister Clara.
Funeral services for Rachel will held at 10 a.m. on April 14 from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Matthew Carpenter, Rachel’s grandson, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday.
