Allan Lewis


OXFORD – Allan W. Lewis, 78 of Oxford passed away on April 5, 2013 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich. He was born on September 24, 1934 in Oxford a son of the late George and Olive
( Atwell) Lewis. On January 27, 1973 he married Kim E. Root, who survives.
Besides his wife, Kim, he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Benjamin C. and Jessica Lewis, Sr. of Oxford and their children, Benjamin C. Lewis Jr., Braden C. Lewis, and Brett C. Lewis; his brother and sister in law, John and Bonnie Lewis of Oxford; his sister Priscilla Rigdon of Oxford; his granddaughter, Gabrielle Lewis of Oxford and his brother in law, Paul Root and sister in law, Laurie Root. He was predeceased by his daughter Micky Leigh Lewis, his sisters, Gertrude Baker and Anita Cooke and his brother David C. Lewis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Allan worked on several farms over the years, including Hofmann Farms and Dunckle’s Egg Farm. He was also a contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, carrying mail from Oxford to Guilford. He had also worked as a family care provider. He enjoyed cooking and playing the piano. He attended Oxford Academy and Central School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Matt Frayer and Rev. Ralph Hinman officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Town of Preston.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Behe Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
