Cleora Stanard


SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Cleora M. “Cleo” Stanard, 87, formerly of South Plymouth, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
Born Dec. 23, 1925, in Norwich, Cleo was the daughter of Burnett E. and Ida (Schloss) May. She lived her entire life in the Norwich area and graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1943. She worked first for the Department of Environmental Conservation in Cortland prior to joining the Norwich School District as a secretary at Perry Browne Elementary School where she remained for many years until her retirement.
Cleo was a member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational where she was a long-time member of the choir.
On Dec. 21, 1963, in Norwich, Cleo married Earl L. Stanard. He died on Jan. 22, 1985. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Daniel and Charlean Foster, of Norwich and Scott and Kathy Foster of Hubert, NC; grandchildren, Jeremey Foster of Santa Rosa, CA, Sarah Jackson of New Berlin, Teresa Foster-Jones of Norwich and Jason Foster, living in North Carolina. Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her sister, Marion Bowers.
Memorial Services for Cleo will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the United Church of Christ First Congregational with Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
