Vernon Kenyon


CINCINNATUS – Vernon “Pop” E. Kenyon, Jr., 68, of Cincinnatus, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
Pop was born in Greene on July 21, 1944, a son of the late Vernon and Lottie Bell Gage Kenyon, Sr. A longtime resident of this area, he retired from Grumman’s in Marathon. After his retirement, he served as the highway superintendent for the Town of Willet. In his spare time, Pop enjoyed antique automobiles and his John Deere tractor and took great pride in taking care of his property.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Martha Hathaway Kenyon; and his daughters, Gail (Mark) Kenyon of German, Valerie (Jeff) Kenyon of South Otselic, Carey (Chris) Kenyon of Pitcher, and Jill (Bill) Tobias of Cincinnatus. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ashley, Bradley, and Christopher Burke; Hailee and Samantha Marshall; and Jessica and Brooke Tobias; a great-granddaughter, Adyson Mae Burke; brothers, Donald, Doane, and Doug Kenyon; and his sisters, Karen Schultz, Kay Bourne, and Darlene Lindbergh.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth, Karl, Keith, and Duwayne, Sr. and sisters, Hazel Kenyon, Diane Bixby, and Dolores Torrey.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, on Sunday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Temple officiating. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery at a later date. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
