Julian Taranto


GUILDERLAND – Julian J. Taranto, 87, of Guilderland, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Ellis Hospital.
He was born in Norwich, the son of the late Vincenzo and Angelina Taranto. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946. Upon his return from active duty, Julian received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from St. Bonaventure College. He later went into business and was the owner of various convenience stores, including Taranto’s IGA in Norwich and Convenient Food Mart in Schenectady. Julian was a family man, being a devoted father and grandfather.
Julian is the beloved father of Julie (Brian) Wilson of Guilderland, Paul Taranto of Rochester, Anthony (Trish) Taranto of Mechanicville, Philip (Christine) Taranto of Colonie, Steven Taranto of Guilderland, Mary (Kevin) Relyea of Guilderland and Andrew (Karen) Taranto of Rotterdam. He is the grandfather of Shelby (Ryan), Alyssa, Kyle, Priscilla, Trevor, Taylor, Cassidy, Zachary, Sidney, Jacob and Veronica. Julian is also survived by the mother of his children Louise Taranto. He leaves behind his sisters Rose Ann Taranto and Emelia Petley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours wereheld from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Carman Rd. Schenectady.
Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 in memory of Julian.
