Julia Barnes


NORWICH – Julia Barnes, 93, a life long Norwich resident, passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Ellis Hospital of Schenectady.
Born in Norwich on Oct. 8, 1919, Julia was the daughter of Leo and Beaulah Reynolds Cook. She spent her entire life in Norwich and on Aug. 19, 1939 in Norwich she married Paris D. Barnes Jr., who passed away July 27, 1989. Over the years, Julia had owned and operated her own beauty shop and worked with her husband in the operation of their business Norwich Collection Service. She will best be remembered as a waitress in Fishman’s Dept. Store.
Julia is survived by her son Donald Leo Barnes and wife Sherri of Schenectady; her grandson Nicolas Paris Barnes; her best friend who she thought of as a sister Marilyn Garofalo of Norwich; and her constant and faithful canine companion Nemo along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husband Paris, Julia was predeceased by her sisters Beatrice Green and Marion Williams and her brother Leland Cook.
Graveside services for Julia will be held in the spring from the Mt.Hope Cemetery at a time to be announced.
